Pain relieving herbs
« on: March 01, 2015, 10:25:40 PM »

Herbs that provide pain relief are typically not addictive & work through many different functions in addition to or outside of the mu or delta opioid receptors.  Some pain killing herbs work through similar mechanisms to NSAID anti-inflammatories, inhibiting the COX-1 or COX-2 enzymes with far fewer side effects, others through the blockage of calcium channels or NMDA receptors, and some even work by potently inhibiting the bodies ability to break down endorphins and/or enkephalins, thus providing a natural pain-relieving effect, and even enhancing the effects of other pain reducing herbals.

Black seed & Oil (Nigella sativa)
California Poppy (Eschscholzia californica)
Chinese Cat's claw [Gou teng] (Uncaria rhynchophylla)
Corydalis [Yan hu suo] (Corydalis yanhusuo)
Frankincense (Boswellia carterii)
Myrrh (Commiphora myrrha)
Phellodendron [Huang bo] (Phellodendron amurense)
Poppy rhoeas (Papavier rhoeas)
Red sage root [dan shen] (Salvia miltiorrhiza)

This list is highly incomplete, please feel free to comment with any that I missed, thank you.
