Nature's Aspirin: Willow Bark
« on: January 26, 2016, 02:36:44 PM »

Willow bark is nature's aspirin. Literally. Aspirin's chief ingredient is a synthetic compound called acetylsalicylic acid. Willow bark contains salicin, which is excreted through the urine as salicylic acid. Researchers spent thirty years experimenting with salicin before they came up with aspirin. In the end, willow bark infusions give you the same benefits without the risk of stomach hemorrhaging. Aspirin, on the other hand, purportedly causes internal bleeding to the tune of 1-2 teaspoons each time it's taken. Willow bark infusions pose none of the risk that their entirely synthetic imitator does. Their positive effects are supposedly identical. I cannot personally vouch for willow bark in the particular case of a heart attack at this time though.
